First Mass at St. John Paul II Mission Church!
Join the Most Rev. Felipe Estévez for our
First Mass, Blessing, and Grand Opening
Thursday, June 23, 2016
Due to the growing number of Catholics in the area, the Most Reverend Bishop Felipe Estévez, Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine, decided to start a Mission Church in Nocatee to serve a growing community. The community encompasses northern St. Johns County and southern Duval County. Thanks to the vision and leadership of Msgr. Daniel B. Logan, the first Mass was celebrated on Saturday, June 9, 2012 in borrowed space at St. Francis in the Field Episcopal Church. A total of 163 people attended the Inaugural Mass.
The Faithful members of the new Mission Church were polled regarding preferences for a name for the parish. The overwhelming choice for the parish’s name was that of Blessed John Paul II. An indult was requested and the Mission Church is now officially called Blessed John Paul II.
The Parc Group has donated land for the new parish to be built at Nocatee. Mass will continue to be held at St. Francis in the Field on Saturday’s at 5:00 pm until the new church is ready.
Effective, March 1, 2014, Rev. Edward Shaner was appointed as Priest-in-Charge of Blessed John Paul II Mission at Nocatee. Please click here for Fr. Ed’s biography.
